The ‘D-Type’ was developed specifically for companies with low to medium capacity. However, it is an ideal option for existing Alchemy or other leveller users where additional capacity is required for high quality products and floor space is limited. The system can be installed either in a straight line or in a U-shape. Alchemy’s patented design utilises computerised automation that allows precise adjustments via a touch screen. Preset process limits are continuously monitored and controlled. Levelling speeds of up to 30 metres per minute result in reduced soldering contact time and a thinner intermetallic layer.
Although the Alchemy ‘D-Type’ system is a low-cost system, it is still easily capable of processing more than 1,400 boards per layer, with first-pass yields typically exceeding 97%. A combination of convection hot air preheating and less active chemistry helps to reduce thermal shock and minimise the absorption of organic surface materials. Compared to alternative coatings, an Alchemy system is a cost-effective process.
