The lead-free roller tinner from CEMCO was developed from the highly successful SnPb system. Tinning is carried out by transporting the circuit board between a 127 mm diameter tinning roller and a 50 mm diameter upper silicone rubber roller. The upper roller is spring-loaded and is driven by a one-way clutch at a slightly slower surface speed than the lower roller. This ensures that the upper roller ‘runs empty’ when the sheet passes between the two rollers. Spring-loaded scraper blocks, in contact at both ends of the tinning roller, keep the anti-scratch salts in the solder bath area. A lever-operated eccentric mechanism is used to raise and lower the upper roller. The gap between the upper and lower tinning rollers is adjusted by means of a simple device. After adjusting the gap, the upper roller is clamped. The top roller is driven by the same motor as the tinning roller, using a cross-driven polyurethane belt that stretches to allow adjustment of the top roller.
